Sources and method
How we choose sources, check claims and decide what not to publish.
What we publish
Kinkcenter explains kink, BDSM and ethical non-monogamy for adults. It is educational, not erotic. We write to inform and to make conversations easier, not to arouse.
How we grade sources
Every factual sentence on a glossary or guide page points to a source, and every source has a grade:
- ASystematic review, meta-analysis or official classification (for example ICD-11).
- BPeer-reviewed study. We note when a sample is small or self-selected.
- CExpert organisation, clinical guidance or a recognised community organisation.
- DEstablished practice in kink communities without research behind it. We say so in the text.
Before a page is published, each claim is checked against the passage it cites. Pages that fail the check are not published.
What we do not publish
- Anything involving minors, age play or bodies that could be read as underage.
- Breath play or choking presented as safe. There is no safe way to restrict breathing, and we only discuss it as a serious risk.
- Scenarios of non-consent without a clear frame of fiction negotiated between adults in advance.
- How-to instructions for high-risk practices such as edge play, blood, electricity across the chest, or drugs and alcohol during play.
- Explicit images, video, erotic fiction or sexualised AI images.
- Forums, comments, uploads or chat.
- Health claims the research does not support, such as "BDSM makes you healthier" or "aftercare prevents drop".
- Legal claims that consent protects against prosecution. In many countries it does not when serious harm occurs.
- Statistics from adult platforms or apps presented as research.

Kinkcenter has no advertising and no affiliate links. If that changes, every commercial link will be marked.
